We last told you about former ‘Star Wars’ actor John Boyega openly talking about hating racists, right after the death of a black man named George Floyd. His death has now stoked chaos in the US and in the rest of the world as people have taken to protest his killing at the hands of a police officer.
The former ‘Star Wars’ actor now delivered a powerful speech in the UK on the issue. Both Disney and ‘Star Wars’ team have backed the actor calling him a “hero”. As he feared that this speech might end his career in the entertainment world, the official Star Wars Twitter feed, the Kathleen Kennedy-run Lucasfilm dubbed him as “hero” and LucasFilm stands with John Boyega”.
Soon after this, Disney too supported this. Disney today pledged $5 million to support nonprofit organizations that advance social justice. The company said that its support starts with a $2 million donation to the NAACP.
In his speech, John Boyega said, “I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but fuck that. This is so vital. I need you guys to understand how painful this shit is. Today is about innocent people who were halfway through their process.”
“We don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved, we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved, but today we’re going to make sure that won’t be an alien thought to our young ones,” he added.
