The Oscars this year may not have a host, but the Academy promises that at least there will be music.
On Thursday, a little more than three weeks ahead of the Feb. 24 telecast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tweeted about two nominated songs that will be performed on the show. The first, “I’ll Fight” from the documentary “RBG,” will be sung by Jennifer Hudson. The second, “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from musical “Mary Poppins Returns,” will be performed by “a surprise special guest.”
This news comes after Variety published a story last week that angered many music fans, including “Poppins” star Lin-Manuel Miranda, when it reported that most Oscar-nominated songs wouldn’t be performed at the Academy Awards. However, it appears that each of the song nominees has a good shot at being represented on the Dolby Theatre stage, after all.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Academy for comment on whether more songs will be performed on the telecast.
