Meryl Streep and More! Everything We Know About ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2

The moms of Monterey are back for more! Big Little Lies season 2 filming wrapped in August 2018 and fans are counting down the days until the HBO series returns to the small screen.

The show’s first season ended with a jaw-dropping death that sparked many questions about what comes next for the fiercely protective mothers in the small Northern California beach town who will do anything for their young children.

From the premiere date to new cast members, scroll down to find out all the important details about Big Little Lies season 2!Nicole Kidman teased the hit series’ return during her appearance on New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen in December 2018. “It’s looking like June. I think June,” she revealed.

Kidman (Celeste Wright), Reese Witherspoon (Madeline Martha Mackenzie), Laura Dern (Renata Klein), Shailene Woodley (Jane Chapman) and Zoë Kravitz (Bonnie Carlson) are all set to reprise their roles.

Meryl Streep will be joining the cast as Mary Louise Wright, Celeste’s mother-in-law who comes into town to investigate her son Perry (Alexander Skarsgård)’s mysterious death. “I was terrified,” Kidman told Variety in November 2018 of working with Streep. “You’re acting opposite the great one. I get nervous anyway — but to be opposite her and not want her to think, ‘Who is this amateur?’ And also, we want to deliver a series for her that she’s great in.”

Although Skarsgard’s character met his maker during the first season’s finale, he will appear in the second season in some capacity, according to TVLine. The True Blood alum also told Digital Spy in October 2018 that he “read all the scripts” for season two and thought they were “very smart” and “very good.” Skarsgard teased a possible return at the Golden Globes in January too, telling fans, “I don’t even know if I’m really dead or not. I feel OK right now, but we’ll see.”

Kidman’s daughters with husband Keith Urban, Sunday and Faith, will have cameos, she dished to Ellen DeGeneres in October 2018.

Dern told Vanity Fair in January 2018 that season 2 will explore “further intimacy in how we get to know” the leading women, who all “have each other’s backs.”

“My character has a very diffident storyline, which is wonderful, but for many other people, it got deep,” Woodley told The Hollywood Reporter in September 2018. “It’s going to be very emotional, but at the same time, still be comedic and have those light moments, but it doesn’t shy away from the dirty.”
