‘Chernobyl’ director Johan Renck to helm ‘The Last of Us’ HBO series

Hollywood’s Emmy-winning director Johan Renck is now re-teaming with HBO and Craig Mazin to direct the pilot of upcoming series ‘The Last of Us’ — an adaptation of video game by the same name.

Johan is popular for his hit mini-series ‘Chernobyl’ that was based on the man-made catastrophe when a nuclear power plant malfunctioned.

As for ‘The Last of Us’, it isa hit post-apocalypse video game that centered on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic.

The writer and creative director of the game, Neil Druckmann, will work with Mazin to pen and executive produce the series.

Prior to ‘Chernobyl’, Johan Renck was a veteran TV director with hits like ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ and ‘Bates Motel’ and others to his credit.
